Solarte is one the league’s best contact hitters. He makes contact on over 85% of the pitches he swings at, which is top 20 in baseball. Combine this with his decent 10% walk rate and you have the makings of a pretty good batting average hitter. The disconnect starts with the Exit Velocity. His 84.6 MPH AEV (Avg Exit Velo) and his 24% Hard Hit Rate places him among 10% worst in the league in both categories. This hurts but doesn’t limit his ability to hit for a high average. Worse it caps his power potential to around a .400 SLG. Solarte most likely doesn’t take a big step forward at the age of 30 and playing half his games at Petco Park, which ranks 6th in Baseball for Home Run suppression. Second base and Third base are stacked with talent. Solarte doesn’t steal bases, doesn’t hit for power, and doesn’t hit in a lineup that will give him opportunities to score runs or drive them in often enough for him to stand out at his position.
